Study of the Saturn
By Jack Hughes

The Study of the Saturn by Jack Hughes is a stunning contemporary adaptation of the 17th century painting by Paul Rubens, the *Saturn*. In this adaptation Jack as discussed in our conversation is primarily focusing on the fleeting yet deeply moving, ghastly psychological portraiture of the Saturn devouring his children. This disturbing yet thought provoking image is masterfully carried out through a captivating usage of largely monochromatic blue colour palette broken with a strong red accent. Furthermore, as pointed out by Jack, one of the main intentions behind this painting was to emphasize the hellish, far-derived from humanity idea of horror greatly represented by the story of Saturn.
